The US and EU are currently negotiating what is intended to be the largest and most ambitious free trade agreement in the world, the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), which represents a major step towards more tightly integrated US and EU economies. However, the TTIP will also affect the economies of third country trade partners like Norway, which is not a member of the EU but is part of the EU's internal market as a result of its membership in the European Economic Area (EEA). What will the agreement entail for third countries such as Norway? This talk will explore possible consequences and challenges that Norway faces as the TTIP agreement works its way through the final stages of negotiations. In particular, it will examine cultural, institutional, and political challenges that arise in the wake of TTIP, seen from a Norwegian perspective.
